BOWIE, MD — Bowie singer Tamara Jade advanced to the third round of "The Voice" on Monday night. Jade impressed judges with her rendition of "Hard Place" by H.E.R. In this second stage, known as the battle round, contestants sing a duet with a member of their team. Their coach then decides who wins the matchup. Jade took on Olivia Reyes. Their coach, R&B singer John Legend, ultimately picked Jade to advance. "Tamara has so much depth and vibrato," Legend said. Now, Jade will square off against another teammate in the knockout round. Whereas coaches pick the song in the battle round, the singers choose the track in the knockout phase. "I'm very happy to still be with Uncle John," Jade said. "He's sticking with me, so I'm sticking with him." If Jade advances again, voters will decide if the Maryland native continues her journey. The winner of the NBC competition will also earn a recording contract with Universal Music Group. Jade first caught attention during her audition, which aired on Oct. 19. Her first performancedrew interest from all four judges, and the video of her tryout has amassed more than 1.6 million views on YouTube. "My soul left my body again," Jade said. "I don't know what it is about this stage that makes your soul leave your body." "The Voice" airs on NBC each Monday from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. and every Tuesday from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m. It is also available on Hulu. Jade's battle round performance is viewable below.
