Estate Planning Basics for Beneficiaries with Disabilities Attorney Devine will review basic estate planning principles and how they apply to individuals with loved ones with disabilities. She will cover wills and trusts, along with the difference between stand-alone special needs trusts and pooled trusts (both first party and third party) and the organizations that manage them in Wisconsin. She will also give an overview of public benefit programs in Wisconsin and how benefits can be impacted through an inheritance. Attorney Amy Roehl Devine joined Haskins, Short & Brindley LLC, an elder law firm, in February 2019. Although originally from the Sheboygan area, she previously represented grandparents raising grandchildren in family court hearings in New York City. She also served as public policy coordinator and lobbyist for Disability Rights Wisconsin. Attorney Devine is a graduate of CUNY School of Law and holds a Masters in Social Work. She also serves on the Board of New Bridge of Madison, a non-profit serving seniors in Madison and Monona, and is part of the Friends of Monona Library. She specializes in estate planning, Medicaid planning and applications, and special needs trusts.
