Description

Join us in celebrating Earth Day with the Wyland Foundation! One “Stella” art piece will be hand-painted live and in person by local artist Melissa Murphy, then kept on site at Pacific City to serve as a reminder about the importance of conservation efforts. During the event 50 children will each be invited to create their own whale-themed art on a blank paint-by-number canvas, a keepsake they can take home with them. A representative from the Wyland Foundation will speak to the children, giving them tips on how to protect the resources in their own community and those around it. This event is free and open to the public, please register for children's paint class. *Streams of Hope, a county-wide community art and cleanup campaign created by the Wyland Foundation, will host local artists as they collaborate on a series of baby gray whale wooden relief statues, built by local artist Dave Reynolds and inspired by the work of famed marine life artist Robert Wyland. Affectionately known as “Stella,” each wooden relief statue will be displayed along local waterways, streets and community gathering places as a reminder for people of all ages to be good stewards of the coastal waterways.
