NEW YORK CITY — A man who appears to be smeared in his victim's blood is just one of many suspects police are searching for as violence mounts in New York City. Police released photos late Thursday night of a blood-stained man wanted for attacking a 26-year-old in Queens on March 18, officials said. The attacker grabbed a knife from an unattended cart, sprang and slashed the other man's face after an argument near Broadway and 73rd Street, authorities said. Two weeks later, police are still looking for the suspect, who appears to be smiling. Police seek help finding this blood-smeared man they said is behind a March 18 attack in Queens. (NYPD) This is just one of multiple strange and violent crimes the NYPD is trying to solve. A 20-year-old man was slashed with a machete Wednesday near NYCHA homes at Water and Jackson streets in Manhattan, police said. The machete left a severe cut, for which the victim received stitches at a nearby hospital, police said. Police are searching for this man who they said slashed another man with a machete on Wednesday. (NYPD) Violence has increasingly become a major issue in New York City, prompting Mayor Eric Adams to double down on assertive policing tactics. Adams lamented the violence late Thursday, while he held a news conference in the aftermath of a Brooklyn shooting that left a 12-year-old boy dead. The boy was sitting in a parked car with his family. "I continue to ask: What about the innocent people? What about people that's sitting in their cars and they're shot and killed?" Adams said. "When are we going to start fighting for the innocent people in this city?" Almost simultaneously with the Brooklyn shooting, gunfire claimed the life of another New Yorker in the Bronx, police said. A 911 call about 7:45 p.m. brought NYPD officers to East 169th Street and Washington Avenue, where they found a man with a gunshot wound to his head, authorities said. Officers identified the man as John Melville, 37, and medics rushed him to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where doctors pronounced him dead, police said. No arrests have been made in that shooting, authorities said. Another attack Thursday unfolded on the L train, when a 65-year-old man was hit with a glass bottle, police said. Two men had walked up to the victim as the train approached Montrose Avenue about 4:20 a.m., authorities said. They struck him over the head with the bottle, punched him and kicked him before running away, police said. They remain on the loose, NYPD officials said. The victim received treatment at a nearby hospital for a minor contusion on his head, authorities said. Video released by the NYPD shows two people authorities said are the suspects, one of whom can be seen carrying a glass bottle. Those with information about these incidents are asked to call the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477), or, for Spanish, 1-888-57-PISTA (74782).
