NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Building manager Judith Musumeci has been identified as the sole victim of Thursday morning's five-alarm fire at an office building near New Rochelle City Hall. Just after 6 a.m., New Rochelle police received a call reporting a fire at 565 North Ave. The nearly 100-year-old building housing mixed retail and office space stretches from Hamilton Ave. to Fifth Ave. The New Rochelle Fire Department arrived to a large active fire that was engulfing the building. As the crews worked to extinguish the stubborn blaze, firefighters found the superintendent of the building dead in her apartment from what officials are describing as an apparent case of smoke inhalation. SEE: Fatality Confirmed In 5-Alarm NR Office Building Fire The Medical Examiner was contacted and transported the victim to their office at Westchester Medical Center where family members positively identified Musumeci. The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The City of New Rochelle, the New Rochelle Police Department and New Rochelle Fire Department extended condolences to Musumeci's family and friends in a statement identifying her as the woman killed yesterday.
