Bellingham Parks is renovating Lorraine Ellis Park at a cost of $175K of our money. They have taken very little input from Columbia Neighborhood. Finally after several letters there is a survey on Engage Bellingham. Their only intent was for a preschool play set. There’s been a school age play set there for 50+ years. Once the Options were up on Engage Bellingham, later they added banners to each picture, which changed the description. Only big problem, it’s different than what the picture actually says. So it’s misleading. They want the kids to go down to Columbia School. I grew up in the neighborhood, we played at this park, not the school. The City will disenfranchise kids in the neighborhood. Thirty plus kids use this park. A park like this pulls in people from a half mile away. They sent out surveys to people 400 feet away. Wow! As stated, it’s in the Columbia Neighborhood. Please go to EngageBellingham.org and vote for Option B to replace what we have now. More information, Facebook: Lorraine Ellis Park Improvements. Info will be added. Survey ends 4/8. See Bellingham Herald on Tuesday. I missed the cutoff. Share with your friends. We pay taxes for a reason.
