MILFORD, CT — The Board of Alderman is scheduled to vote Monday to fill a vacancy left after longtime third district Alderman Martin Hardiman died.
Mayor Ben Blake is asking the board to consider current Board of Education member Holly Mulrenan to complete the term, according to the meeting agenda. Her name was submitted by the Milford Democratic Town Committee.
Mulrenan is also the vice chairman of the city Board of Health.
Hardiman died in early March. He was a longtime Milford resident and had spent 41 years as either an elected or appointed board member, including 18 years on the Board of Alderman. He was also the chairman of the city's Saint Patrick's Day Parade committee for 30 years.
Mulrenan is an associate professor and chair of the medical assisting degree program at St. Vincent's College. She is also a volunteer for the American Junior Legion Post 196 Baseball league and sits on the Goodwin College Medical Assisting Advisory Board.
The Milford city charter allows the Board of Alderman to fill vacancies by a majority vote. Appointees need to be a member of the same political party as the predecessor.
