HAVRE DE GRACE, MD — A cat died in a house fire in Havre de Grace Thursday night, officials said. Two adults were displaced by the fire, which broke out around 9:45 p.m., according to investigators. A neighbor discovered the blaze, and 40 firefighters led by the Susquehanna Hose Company brought the fire under control within 10 minutes, officials said. There was $75,000 in structural damage, while $25,000 worth of items inside were lost, the fire marshal reported. Investigators determined the fire started in the kitchen; however, the cause of the blaze remains under investigation. The Red Cross is assisting the two people who were displaced, and they were also given a new smoke alarm since the original alarms were damaged in the blaze.
