OAK FOREST, IL — The Food 4 Less grocery store in Oak Forest will be closing in September, officials from the low-priced grocery chain told Patch. According to store officials, the location at 5556 159th Street will officially close on Sept. 10, though a spokesperson for the company said the date is subject to change. Employees at the store were notified by the vice president of Food 4 Less in person during a meeting Friday morning. A manager at the store told Patch no employees will lose their jobs but instead will be offered a transfer to another Food 4 Less location of their choosing. City officials did not immediately respond to Patch's questions on if the city offered financial aid to the store, which is one of the cheapest grocers in the area. Other Food 4 Less stores in Dolton, Alsip and Olympia Fields are remaining open. The spokesperson said the closure was due to increased rent on the property and "insufficient sales." As of Friday, employees were not sure if the store will be reducing prices further before the September closing. Food 4 Less is based in California and owned by Kroger.
