EVANSTON, IL — An Evanston man unloading items from his car was robbed at gunpoint Friday evening, police said. Nearly a week later, the car had still not been recovered. Shortly after 7:30 p.m., Evanston police were dispatched to the 700 block of Brummel Street for a report of a carjacking that had just taken place, according to police. Police were told the gunman had been riding a Divvy shared bicycle before stealing an SUV at gunpoint, and officers found one of the bikes about 15 feet from the spot of the stickup, Cmdr. Ryan Glew said. A 33-year-old Evanston man told officers a man approached him and demanded he hand over the keys to his father's Honda SUV, then pulled a black handgun out of his coat pocket, police said. "The offender stated to the victim, 'Give me your keys, don't mess around, I'll kill you,'" according to Cmdr. Ryan Glew. Police reported the carjacker was described as a 20-year-old black man who is about 5 foot, 8 inches tall and weighing between 120 and 140 pounds with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and a black medical mask, according to police. The robber was last seen driving the stolen car west on Brummel Street.
