Press release from City of Fremont: FREMONT, CA — The City of Fremont was informed by the Alameda County District Attorney's Office that charges have been filed against former City Manager Mark Danaj for embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds, alleged to have occurred during his employment. The City of Fremont is actively monitoring the situation and will evaluate the impact of the criminal proceedings on the terms of Mr. Danaj's severance package. Following Mr. Danaj's resignation from the City in September 2021, discrepancies were identified with his use of a City issued credit card. To ensure financial accountability and transparency, the Finance Director has asked the City's independent financial auditor to conduct an assessment of the City's purchase card program that will likely include an examination of policies and procedures and an audit of recent purchase card activity.
