DOWNERS GROVE, IL — Downers Grove Grade School District 58 will present a referendum question to voters in November in an effort to raise property taxes to fund renovations to its schools, according to Shaw Media.
Taxes would increase by 23 cents per $100 of a home's equalized assessed value if the referendum is approved. The increased property tax rate would be effective for 20 years.
The referendum question will also address health and safety throughout District 58 schools, in addition to tackling the longtime goal of moving sixth grade students into the district's middle schools.
Plans to renovate the district's schools include replacing heaters, electrical panels and other decades-old equipment. If the referendum gets voter approval, crews are likely to begin repairs in summer of 2023.
