RYE, NY — A trio of students from Rye Country Day School made an impressive showing at the Regeneron Westchester Science & Engineering Fair (WESEF) this year with their work capturing the imagination of judges, peers and experts in their chosen fields of research. The fair serves area high school students who have conducted original research projects in Westchester, Putnam and Sullivan Counties and are interested in sharing their research, competing for awards and a chance to attend the Regeneron International Science & Engineering Fair (ISEF) in Atlanta, from May 7 - 13. Aadi Bhattacharya, Rohan Malik and Emilie Ward presented their research at WESEF this year. Rohan Malik's Computational Biology research was titled "Promoter Capture Hi-C Modeling Elucidates Regulatory Landscape in Immune Cells." His work was completed with a mentor from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Aadi Bhattacharya worked with a mentor from New York University on his Cellular and Molecular Biology project "Identifying Characteristics of Cancer-Reactive Germinal Centers Using Multiplexed Immunohistochemistry," which earned him a 2nd Place Award of a silver medal and $100 sponsored by Con Edison. Bhattacharya, who was also selected as an International Genius Olympiad Finalist, will go on to compete on June 18 in a virtual contest against 1,200 students from 75 countries and 39 states. Emilie Ward was awarded a U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize certificate for her Environmental Science work, "The Effect of pH on Growth of Algae at Teatown Lake," which was done with a Teatown mentor. She was also nominated to enter the state water prize competition. "Congratulations, Aadi, Rohan and Emilie!" Rye Country Day School posted on social media.
