This fun class explores Renaissance and Baroque methods to achieve rapid success in painting portraits and figures. We will create Underpaintings using browns (known as Imprimatura), or black-and-white (known as Grisaille). The Underpainting is a fairly complete tonal rendering of the final painting. This allows you to concentrate entirely on the tonal relationships of your composition, without having to worry about color. As a final step we explore adding glazes and scumbles of warm and cool colors to make your paintings glow. Randall, a professional Classical Violinist will lead you step by step through Classical Art principles in order to achieve remarkable success! This method has been employed for over 300 years in European art. In addition, it is FUN! Supplemented with books, projected slides, weekly videos in advance or in class, personal email critiques, and classical props. Intermediate Figure Drawing advised.
