Description

From the City of New Orleans: July 31, 2020 Mayor LaToya Cantrell today issued the following statement on this, the last day of unemployment insurance (UI) benefits for New Orleans residents coping with the COVID-19 pandemic that has claimed the lives of 560 residents: "The end of UI benefits today marks a new phase of uncertainty and pain for many of our residents, and that cannot go ignored. My administration will continue to fight tirelessly for the support and intervention needed on the federal level. "In recent weeks, we have implemented a rental assistance program, created an emergency housing program for the homeless and worked to provide legal assistance to residents facing eviction. But resources adequate to the scale of the true need do not exist on the local level. Immediate federal action is required. "We will continue to work with our federal partners to stress the necessity of federal assistance that meets the needs of our citizens." Learn more about housing and legal assistance here.
