Description

Hi Philly artists! I am on the production team for This Is My Brave - The Show in Philadelphia taking place at the Ambler Theater on October 9, 2022. This Is My Brave, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit centered on the power of storytelling to break down the stigma surrounding mental illness. The vision is to one day live in a world where we don't have to call it "brave" to talk openly about mental illness. We'll simply call it talking. Each show is a live presentation filled with touching essays, original music, poetry, comedy, and more. Each story is performed by individuals living with – or loving someone with – a mental illness and/or substance use disorder. Shows are held in cities and towns across the country, virtually or in person. If you are or you know someone who might be interested in auditioning, please share this flyer or click the Calendly link to secure your spot! https://calendly.com/thisismybrave-philadelphia *** A few more details: Please note this is an UNPAID opportunity to share your voice. This Is My Brave shows are meant to educate the audience about various mental health disorders, and should also inspire those in the audience who may be dealing with a similar issue - to let them know there is hope for the future and things can get better if they’re able to reach out for help. In order to do this, these stories are told from the perspective of someone who has made it through the brunt of the struggle. Mental health conditions featured in the show are intentionally diverse. This includes any condition that is included in the DSM-5 (Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition) including Autism. Storytellers can be someone with a mental health condition or a family member who has lived experience. This Is Our Brave productions also strive for a variety of storytelling methods. For our Philadelphia show, we are aiming to include presentations of original poetry, original music, personal essays, storytelling, comedy, and dance. Finally, we are seeking cast diversity, condition diversity, and creative expression diversity, along with placing emphasis on including a diverse demographic that represents our community. We are seeking storytellers of different ages (18+), genders, and ethnicities. Message me with any questions! Jenny
