Invasive Plant Control Position Minimum $21.50/Hour plus Mileage

Jobs

Westford VT

Description

Trout Lily Forestry Services is hiring for summer 2022! This position would begin in late May or early June and conclude in late October, but there is year round employment available for the right person. What would you be doing? Trout Lily specializes in invasive plant removal, primarily through targeted herbicide applications. Trout Lily works on a variety of properties, both publicly and privately managed, to remove invasive plants with the goal of bringing greater ecological health to the land. You can read more about invasive plants and why they’re problematic here. Trout Lily also specializes in maple syrup production consulting and installation. We offer maple tap counts to assess maple tree density and we design and install maple tubing installations. We also tap and manage our own 200 acre sugarbush of approximately 16,000 taps. You will be trained on how to effectively control a variety of invasive plants. Eventually you would work in a small group identifying invasive plants, marking out treatment areas, safely and carefully mixing and applying herbicide through foliar (leaf) applications with a backpack sprayer, and cutting invasive plants with hand tools to do a stump application of herbicide. Other elements of work would include loading and unloading equipment from vehicles at job sites, cleaning equipment, entering records of work completed and materials used, and communicating with landowners or members of the public to answer questions. Invasive plant removal would make up the bulk of this job, but there is potential for time to be spent installing maple tubing systems. Work for someone wanting year round employment would include installing new maple tubing systems in addition to tapping trees and maintaining our existing maple tubing systems in the late fall, winter, and spring. The invasive plant control work occurs at a variety of sites that are within a one hour drive of Burlington, Vermont. The maple work would be within Chittenden county, primarily in Westford and Jericho. Read more about this position and how to apply here!
