Description
SANTA CRUZ COUNTY, CA — A sinking, two-lane Santa Cruz County road was down to a single lane Tuesday after half of a lane gave way, damaging a water line.
Bear Creek Road in northern Santa Cruz County is down to a single lane around the 1.71 mile marker, the county said Tuesday. The road dropped off around 3:15 a.m., destroying about 60 feet of an eight-inch water line, the San Lorenzo Valley Water District said in a statement.
The cause of the slide has not yet been determined, the district said.
Water has since been restored to customers in the area.
The district has anticipated possible road failure at this location because it is sinking and kept in touch with the county regarding its state, SLVWD said. The district placed isolation valves in the area as a precaution and staff were immediately able to shut down mainline valves, isolating the break.
