ARLINGTON, VA — When Arlington residents heard their dogs barking near their fence line, they went outside to see what had caught their dogs' attention.
They noticed a coyote had gotten stuck in between their fences. The residents called the Animal Welfare League of Arlington right away. An animal control officer was sent to the home to check on the coyote.
Officer Elpers was able to safely maneuver the coyote out of the fences, allowing the coyote to run away unharmed, AWLA said Wednesday.
"While residents don't spot coyotes often in Arlington, they are native to the area," AWLA said. "If you catch a glimpse of a coyote in your neighborhood, there's no need to be alarmed, but you can always give us a call if you spot an animal that is injured or in distress."

Coyotes typically feed on plants and animals, from rodents to rabbits, reptiles and white-tailed deer. But they might mistake pets like cats and small dogs for small prey, putting these pets at risk if left unattended outside.
