MAHWAH, NJ — A New York man was arrested after police say he burglarized two cars and a residence, leaving behind a trail of evidence that included his shoes and an unfinished can of soda.
Jorge Lopez, 18, of Spring Valley, New York, was arrested Friday after police received a 911 call reporting two vehicles being burglarized in west Mahwah.
After setting up a perimeter in the area, officers apprehended Lopez as he tried to steal a bicycle to aid in his escape.
He was found with evidence tying him to two car burglaries, jewelry and was in possession of marijuana and paraphernalia, according to police.
After apprehending Lopez, police received a call from an area resident saying their home had been burglarized and a half-full can of soda and a pair of Nike slides were left in the house.
The resident confirmed to police that the jewelry in Lopez's possession was theirs, and Lopez was wearing a pair of shoes belonging to the homeowners.
