BERGEN COUNTY, NJ — A Rutherford man is behind bars and accused of stabbing his brother to death earlier this month, according to Bergen County Prosecutor Mark Musella. Uriel Adames-Gomez, 29, has been charged with murder and possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose. According to law enforcement, on Tuesday, Oct. 6, 2020, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the Rutherford Police Department received a 911 call from Adames-Gomez stating that he had stabbed and killed his brother. When police arrived on the scene, they said they found Adames-Gomes in front of an apartment building along the 300-block of Union Avenue in Rutherford. Officers placed him into custody. Officers said they then entered an apartment unit to conduct a welfare check and discovered 26-year-old Gabriel Adames-Gomez deceased. The officers said they observed a large kitchen knife on the floor near his body and a pool of suspected blood near the victim. Rutherford police then secured the crime scene and notified the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office Major Crimes Unit and Bergen County Sheriff's Department Bureau of Criminal Investigations Unit. Authorities said an investigation revealed that during a domestic violence incident, the suspect stabbed his brother multiple times and was charged in connection with his brother's death the following day, Oct. 7. Adames-Gomez remains in custody at the Bergen County Jail pending his first appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack. Note: Charges are merely accusations and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
