Description

The Children's Center of Hamden celebrated the opening of a Quality Parenting Center (QPC) with a ribbon cutting ceremony on March 25. QPC Director Ismaila Musah and Board of Director member Claudia Grantham welcomed Center friends and colleagues to the event and credited the QPC team of staff for their dedication to helping children and families reunify. Funded by The Department of Children and Families, DCF Commissioner Vannessa Dorantes shared a memory of seeing a family sing "happy birthday" to their child in a DCF office. She contrasted that memory to the home-like QPC filled with colorful playrooms, a kitchen, living room and backyard. Representative Robyn Porter shared her enthusiasm for having a QPC available to children and families, both with welcoming remarks and a bright smile as she assisted with the ribbon cutting. Hamden Mayor Lauren Garrett highlighted that she brought her daughter to the event as she complimented the QPC team for their desire and skill to support families. The QPC opened in October 2021 but delayed the ribbon cutting until COVID-19 positivity rates decreased. In the six months since opening, the QPC has welcomed more than 50 children and has reunified two families. Founded as Connecticut's first child caring agency in 1833 as the New Haven Orphan Asylum, The Children's Center of Hamden is dedicated to helping children and families achieve their highest level of functioning through quality treatment, education and care.
