MAHWAH, NJ — Chase Meola's life will be honored in Mahwah, after the Ohio State University student and Mahwah graduate was killed early Monday morning.
At 7 p.m. Sunday, the community is invited to Commodore Perry Field to remember Meola at a candlelight vigil.
"This is a community event for friends and neighbors from the township to come together and help each other heal through this very difficult time," the recreation department said, in a news release.
A former Mahwah High School football player, Meola was shot and killed following an incident at a Columbus, Ohio party, Columbus Police said Monday.
The shooter, Kintie Mitchell Jr., 18, was arrested and charged with murder in the city's 126th homicide of 2020.

The university announced the death of Meola in a public safety alert and through social media Monday.
"The police have identified the victim of this tragedy as Ohio State student Chase Meola," the university said in a statement.
"The Ohio State University community is in mourning, and our deepest condolences and support go to the family and friends of Chase."
