A Hands-on Sweater Repair & Care Workshop Are your sweaters looking drab and holey? Join us in a hands-on workshop where you will learn multiple methods of sweater care and repair including to de-pilling and needle felting with Reed McLaren of The Sustainable Garment. Bring your sweater back to life by removing unsightly pills with a DIY sweater comb and experience the magic of needle felting for colorful hole repair and embellishment - just in time for summer storage! Participants will especially enjoy learning how to to transform drab sweaters into incredible unique pieces worth cherishing. Bring a few sweater items from your closet that you are happy to play around with. Woolens and cashmere work best, however, it may be possible to explore these methods on other natural and synthetic fibers like. Each participant will walk away with their own DIY sweater comb and some seriously loved sweaters! Visual artist-turned-textile enthusiast Reed McLaren’s deep affection for natural materials led her to uncover the lost arts of garment grooming and clothing care. Through research of historical tools and techniques with hands-on experimentation, and the documentation of various travels and encounters in the field, she explores all aspects of how these once necessary practices can guide us toward a more sustainable modern age.
