Man Hospitalized After Eating Heroin, Meth, Police Say

SCOTTS VALLEY, CA — Officers said they stopped a car driving without tail lights along Highway 17 overnight Tuesday and learned the passenger had eaten meth and heroin before speaking with police. Scotts Valley Police said it noted the car had fraudulent registration and driver Eric Modeno had a suspended license and outstanding warrant. Modeno was arrested and police began speaking to his passenger, who gave several variations of fake names, police said. He appeared to be in distress. He allowed police to search him and officers found 10 grams of meth, police said. The man was surprised and thought he swallowed all of his drugs before speaking with police, they said. Medics arrived, treated the man for a possible overdose and took him to the hospital, police said. He will be stabilized there before police take him to jail and attempt to identify him.
