Press release from PAPD: April 1, 2022 PAPD Emergency Service Unit welcomed 12 new members into their unit this week. There was a total of 16 ESU Officers at the graduation which included two Morris County Sheriff's and two Jersey City officers who only trained with PAPD. The graduates went through a very rigorous training for 30 weeks. Now, they specialize in tactical response, active shooter, high angle rescue, motor vehicle collision extrication, hazardous materials and confined space rescue. They are also proficient in tubular tactical operations involving trains and aircraft. "Today marked another first for the Port Authority Police Department whereas, the Emergency Services Unit completed its first in-house field training course," said Port Authority Police Department Superintendent Edward Cetnar. "The six month course bolstered the unit in its ability to react, respond, mitigate, and recover from events that have an impact on the New York and New Jersey region. The intense course included training in heavy rescue, water rescue, EMT life-saving techniques, counter-terrorism, detection and response for weapons of mass destruction and a host of other expertise capabilities."
