PLAINFIELD, IL — April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, prompting law enforcement agencies to kick off their "Drop It and Drive" campaign. Throughout April, officials said Wednesday drivers should expect to see increased patrols and enforcement zones in Plainfield. "Police will take a zero tolerance approach and will be ticketing drivers who text or use their cell phones while driving," officials said in a news release. Plainfield Police Department is partnering with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Illinois State Police and more than 200 local agencies to remind drivers not to text and drive. The campaign will last the entire month of April, officials announced Wednesday. "Texting while driving puts everyone on the road at risk by distracting a driver visually, manually and cognitively," officials said. "During Distracted Driving Awareness Month, we are working to increase awareness of these dangers and encourage all motorists to give driving their full attention."
