UF/IFAS Extension Charlotte County is partnering with Peace River Audubon on National Arbor Day to feature a free native plant starter kit. Participants that sign up can receive up to 5 native plants. This event is called “Go Florida Native for Arbor Day.” Those interested can sign up to commit to planting and caring for this collection of native plants in their own yard. We will offer one kit per household to those that pre-register and attend a short class on planting and caring for these plants. This kit will consist of 1 Florida native tree, 2 shrubs and 2 grasses. With a retail value of $60-$80, this is a significant start to your native plant landscaping! The purpose of this event is to promote the planting of native plants that are beneficial to wildlife and pollinators. There will also be plant vendors, educational booths and displays.
