Northfield Residents Can 'Adopt A Catch Basin'

NORTHFIELD, MN — The city of Northfield recently invited its residents to join its program "Adopt a Catch Basin." The program aims to have volunteers regularly inspect their catch basin and keep it clean, the city said. This will keep the water flowing through the basin clean, as well as reduce flooding, according to the city. "While city staff clean and remove debris from more than 3,000 catch basins, it can be difficult to get to all of them before a storm," Cole Johnson, the city's water quality technician, said. "We need volunteers to help keep our storm water flowing properly and to keep our ponds and rivers healthy." Volunteers can choose a catch basin close to home by using an interactive map, the city said. More information is available here.
