Annual César Chávez Celebration Slated For April 2 In City Of Davis

Press release from the City Of Davis: March 29, 2022 The City's annual Davis César Chávez Celebration will be held during the Farmers Market, on Saturday, April 2, from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 pm in Central Park, located at 401 C Street. The free event is sponsored by the City of Davis Human Relations Commission. Community members of all ages are encouraged to attend. The Human Relations Commission has put together a dynamic program to celebrate and honor the work of civil rights leader César Chávez. The event commemorates the anniversary of César Chávez's birthday. Speakers and performances will take place during the two-hour event. Performances include a special opening Aztec dance performed by Tlayolo, poetry reading by César Chávez Elementary School students and dancing by Folklorico Latino de Woodland. Speakers include Dr. Lorena Marquez from the UC Davis ChicanX Department, Daniel Castaneda, a PhD student from the UC Davis History department, and Justine Villanueva of the Bulosan Center. A children's story time will also be incorporated into the program. Additionally, the event will host resource tables showcasing local organizations. Groups will be available throughout the event for information and conversation. Latinos Unidos, a high school student club, will have host an art activity for attendees. "I'm looking forward to coming together to acknowledge and celebrate the important work of César Chávez and others, who worked tirelessly to improve the living and working conditions of farmworkers and strived for social change," said Mayor Gloria Partida.
