Here are the top three stories in Grand Rapids today: After being closed for more than a year, a popular downtown gathering spot is finally reopening. Rosa Parks Circle, located at 135 Monroe Center St. NW, will reopen on Jun. 1, with a grand rededication ceremony slated for Jun. 17, according to city officials. The $2.8 million restoration project, which replaced the existing concrete rings on the gathering area/sculpture at the heart of the park called the "Ecliptic" with granite ones, started in May 2021. (MLive.com) A fire station in Grand Rapids has been renamed after Martin Luther King Jr. On Wednesday, officials rededicated the Franklin Street Fire Station as Martin Luther King Jr. Fire Station, following the renaming last month of Franklin Street to Martin Luther King Jr. Street. City leadership, residents, Grand Rapids Fire Department staff, and representatives from the National Forum for Black Public Administrators and MARCH Committee were all in attendance at the rededication ceremony. (MLive.com)Elton John is bringing his Farewell Yellow Brick Road Tour to Grand Rapids next week. The global tour began in 2018 before being paused for nearly two years due to the pandemic.
