Oyster Bay Sends Out LI's Largest Shipment Of Aid To Ukraine

SYOSSET, NY — The Town of Oyster Bay packed up and shipped out the area's largest shipment of aid to Ukraine today, which was all donated from town residents and businesses. The collection drive was started in mid-March. In the short time, Town of Oyster Bay residents donated more than 7,000 pounds of goods, including medical supply, personal hygiene products and non-perishable food. The supplies were collected at drop-off sites all over the town. "We all watch in horror as we witness the faces of innocent women, children and men impacted by war," said Town Supervisor Joseph Saladino. "As the unimaginable continues to unfold overseas, we stand united here at home. The overwhelming generosity of our residents has been nothing short of amazing. This humanitarian relief drive is resulting in much-needed supplies being delivered to innocent victims of Russia's aggression. God bless the people of Ukraine and everyone who donated to help them." Town officials thanked Presiding Officer Richard Nicolello and the Nassau County Legislature for partnering in this collection initiative, and recognized Craig Probst and Brian Kuhn of Hendrickson Fire Rescue Equipment for their assistance in transporting the items. Hendrickson donated use of a 53-foot tractor trailer and assisted in transporting the items to New Jersey, where they will be further sorted and shipped.
