Mayor Says Madison Is 'Ready And Prepared' For Isaias

MADISON, NJ—Mayor Robert Conley today met with the heads of the town's emergency services, power department, and public works as Tropical Storm Isaias continues toward the area, promising heavy rain and high winds beginning tomorrow. "We are ready and prepared for Tropical Storm Isaias," said the mayor, in a statement following the meeting, "all departments that are critical during these times have met and prepared required equipment and personnel." All departments are currently in "storm prep mode," Conley said, and employees are checking equipment, such as generators, that may be needed. The mayor added that extra drainage and street cleaning is underway to help prevent flooding. Conley asked that all dining establishments secure pop-up tents, tables and chairs. All residents are asked to secure loose items like tents, garbage cans and umbrellas. Those homes and businesses with sump pumps should check that they are working. A tropical storm warning was issued by the National Weather Service on Monday, and the storm is expected to bring winds up to 45 mph and several inches of rain.
