Idaho Department of Health and Welfare is currently seeking a full-time Lead Custodian for the new State Hospital West (SHW), located in Nampa, Idaho. SHW is nestled between Ridgecrest and Centennial golf courses on a picturesque piece of state property along the Nampa Interstate 84 corridor. SHW is a 16-bed Adolescent Psychiatric Treatment Hospital The primary duties of this position are to perform moderate to heavy-duty cleaning in an assigned area, coordinate the work of the other custodian, and perform related work. The work schedule for this position is typically Monday through Friday SHW provides a friendly and professional working atmosphere. In addition, SHW provides new cleaning equipment and supplies which helps make the custodial work easier. Example of Duties Lead Custodian: Lead, coordinate, and monitor the performance of Custodial employees in work and organizational activities. Communicate, verbally and written, commendable work performance and work performance concerns or issues to the Custodian Supervisor. Assist in developing/establishing, monitoring, and documenting performance improvement action plans for custodians. Conduct and document area/room inspections. Assist in developing and establishing training and work standards for Custodians. Monitor work areas for safety hazards. Immediately report safety hazards in accordance with Hospital policy. Explain and /or clarify work assignments, work prioritization, inspection reports and other organizational information or directions. Coordinate and monitor the reporting of the need/requests for repairs to the Maintenance Department. Requisition supplies from Materials Management. Cleaning/maintenance typical duties: Performs heavy-duty cleaning in hospitals, locker rooms, classrooms, dormitories, and lavatories. Cleans, sanitizes, and polishes bath, lavatory, shower, and sink fixtures. Dusts, washes, sponge mops; sanitizes, and shampoos furniture, woodwork, walls, windows, and glass items. Cleans shades and covers on light fixtures; replaces light bulbs; removes waste and debris from areas. Selects products and compounds for cleaning jobs; measures and mixes compounds, disinfectants, and sanitizing agents and applies according to procedures or manufacturers' specifications. Orders supplies for custodial closets and stocks with paper products, cleaning compounds and similar items. Equipment operation/security typical duties: Operates heavy-duty scrubbing, buffing, shampooing, vacuuming, and wet/dry pickup equipment. Performs preventive maintenance on cleaning equipment. Finishes floors using sanders, strippers, and final finishers. Uses snow blowers, hysters, airlift platforms, dollies, and carts. Replaces belts, brushes, and bearings in power equipment. Ensures that floor and building area is secure. Minimum Qualifications You must possess all the minimum qualifications listed below to pass the exam for this position. Good knowledge of the methods, materials, and equipment used in heavy-duty custodial work including related safety practices. Good knowledge of cleaning agents and related products and their possible reactions. Some knowledge of supervisory practices. Some knowledge of sanitation and infection control. Some knowledge of training methods used in custodial work. Experience operating industrial-type high-speed cleaning equipment. Experience performing minor maintenance on custodial equipment. Experience using hand tools to repair cleaning equipment. Experience explaining the use and maintenance of custodial equipment. Requires working in a hospital or long-term care setting for at least 1 year. This work is heavy-duty commercial cleaning, not household type work. Most of your time will be spent in high-traffic areas that require heavy cleaning. This may include working in hazardous and/or unpleasant conditions.
