MADISON, NJ—The Madison Fire Department battled two separate fires on Friday night and into Saturday, with multiple surrounding departments assisting. A fire on Delbarton Avenue was confined to the garage, said the department, but a blaze on Alexander Avenue did considerable damage to one home. "Thankfully nobody was injured at either fire," said a statement issued by the borough, "with a quick response from MFD & mutual aid, they were able to prevent total losses." According to the State of New Jersey, mutual aid, or mutual assistance, is the sharing of resources across jurisdictions in emergency situations. Chatham, Cedar Knolls, Florham Park, Green Village, Morris County Fire Coordinators, Morris Plains, Morris Township and Parsippany District 1 all provided assistance at the fire scenes. "We extend even greater thanks to Chatham Township and Summit Fire Departments," the statement said, "who covered Madison throughout the night and into the morning. Madison Ambulance personnel were also standing by on scene in the event of an injury."
