Description
This sweet dog began showing up around our country house over the past year. We estimate that he is not yet two years old. He is very friendly with the kids and our other dogs. He loves to play and snuggle. He has much personality, spirit, and is a lot of fun! Without a fence, we haven’t been able to keep him on our property (we have tried). Sadly, a neighbor shot him, and he came to us dragging his front right leg on the ground. We took him to the vet for x-rays and care. The x-rays showed that the bullet damaged his right front scapula (which is the shoulder bone). In the (roughly) ten days since he was shot, he has been steadily healing. The vet says it is a great sign that he is using his leg just a little bit for walking and to balance, but he can’t put his full weight on the leg yet. He has inspired us with his upbeat, positive attitude as he happily hops along. Surprisingly, the leg doesn’t slow him down much. He still likes to play and is quite fast if he decides he wants to run after something. His favorite past time is treeing squirrels (so cute!). This dog is quite the over comer! He has been in the house these past ten days. He is well behaved (no chewing or destruction of anything in the house, sleeps quietly in the laundry room at night). He is very well mannered –except that when he gets playful, he likes to nip at our legs to invite us to tussle with him. A good back rub or trip outside (to let out some energy) calms him back down. The vet is predicting he will continue to heal and get better over the next several weeks (meaning he predicts the leg will be functional again). No additional medical treatment is needed for his injury. We are so sad that this has happened and know that he is not safe out here in the country. We are looking for a safe home for him to be loved. He deserves this. Specifics: Roughly 20-25 pounds Male, unaltered Roughly 2 years old Plays well with other dogs and kids Still healing from a gunshot wound, but is ready to go to a safe home Breed: Australian Shepherd/Healer mix (according to the vet’s best guess) New Owner Requirements: Must have a fenced in yard; a fence without gaps and something he can’t squeeze through. I do not believe this dog is suited for apartment living, or being left in a kennel all day. You must make sure his recovering leg is not further hurt by kids or other rough/playful dogs. The vet estimates it will take about 6 weeks (from the time he was shot) to heal. He was shot sometime around March 17th. Price: Asking $50 to make sure he goes to a good home. The visit to the vet for x-rays and medication cost us several hundred dollars so this is not a money making endeavor for us. Contact Info: Please text (preferable), email, or leave voicemail.
