Description

Suminagashi, the Japanese form of paper marbling, translates as "floating ink" or "spilled ink". In this class, explore the creative, meditative process of suminagashi-style paper marbling. You'll be guided through the history of suminagashi, a suminagashi demonstration, along with instruction on how to create a marbling set up at home, and you'll leave with a collection of swirling, organic, water-painted marbled paper. Connect to fluidity, ink, breath, creative practice, and nature. Kelly Laughlin (she/hers) is an artist, writer, and creative facilitator who focuses on the playful, meditative acts of making. She believes every person is capable of living a creative life. Kelly is the founder of Odette Press, a stationery studio dedicated to creating artful tools for everyday rhythms and routines while holding space for moments of creativity, self-discovery, and awareness, through the reflective act of writing. Inspired by nature, landscape, and creative nourishment, if she's not in her studio, she's likely taking a long walk, cooking, or finding rejuvenation outside.
