SANTEE, CA — San Diego County-based business Hawthorne Country Store has opened its doors in Santee. The store at 10845 Woodside Ave. provides a variety of pet, equestrian, livestock, gardening, home food preservation, western lifestyle clothing and home décor offerings. Hawthorne Country Store's expansion to East County comes as customers are sheltering in place and learning to homestead. In response to the growing interest in homesteading, the business will be offering a variety of free classes on its YouTube channel. The first lesson is on Chick Care 101, with others slated to be added soon. "We have had so many inquiries about gardening, baking, preserving, chickens, goats, beef and milking cows that we wanted to share and encourage people to try their hand at a new home skill," said Heather Thelen, co-owner of the three-generation family-owned Hawthorne Country Store.
