Description
WOONSOCKET, RI — A portion of Hamlet Avenue will be closed on Monday while a structure is demolished through Woonsocket's Blight Reduction program. The structure is located at 80 Hamlet Avenue and was targeted for elimination through the city's Density Reduction and Vacant Property Initiative.
The demolition will occur between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. During that time, a portion of the road will be closed to traffic and parking will be restricted.
Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt said the building will join more than 30 that the city has purchased and demolished since the program's inception in 2015. The program is aimed at improving the city's landscape, reducing crime associated with vacant properties and increasing property values.
"Removal of this structure will eliminate any public safety hazard, reduce density, create 10,356 square feet of open space and help lift property values in the neighborhood, and property values overall."
