Description
Cultural Exchanges cultivate spaces and events for residents of differing neighboring communities to build relationships and erase barriers This month's SCP EcoExchange is focused on Redlining and its impact on racial equality in 2022. Redlining, the discriminatory rating system designed by the Government in the 1930's, defined certain neighborhoods as risky for investment, and has impacted San Diego communities and communities in cities everywhere in America. Many Americans do not know how redlining came about and most important, how it impacts neighborhoods in 2022. Join us while we unpack all of this with 3 panelists who will bring you historical context about San Diego, an explainer on redlining and how it impacts our Sister Cities residents and friends, and discussion about Redling's impact in 2022. Be sure to register for this event. Seats are limited to 20. These incredible panelists represent the perspective of professionals involved in Local Government, Real Estate industry and History through the lens of Genealogy Research. Eric Henson, Policy Advisor to Council President Pro Tem, Monica Montgomery-Steppe, District 4 (Southeastern San Diego) Over the last 1.5 years, the Sister Cities Project Team has listened as Eric informally educated everyone at our SCP EcoExchanges(tm) about how Redlining works. He breaks it down for us, unpacks details that relate directly to San Diego history and shares his overview as Policy Advisor, about why it is so important to understand Redlining's impact in 2022. Eric brings his own story as a lifelong resident of Southeastern San Diego to his informative discussion. Eric and his team are enormously busy helping District 4 thrive, and we are fortunate he is available to bring his unique perspective to this event. Few people are able to illuminate this topic with a combination of academic knowledge, localized expertise and lived-experience. You don't want to miss this!
