12 Displaced From Home After 2-Alarm Fire In West Haven

WEST HAVEN, CT — Twelve people were displaced from their home after a two-alarm fire on New Street in West Haven on Tuesday, according to officials. The American Red Cross is helping three families – six adults and six children – after the fire, according to a news release. The Red Cross provided assistance to meet the families' immediate needs, officials said. "The Red Cross also provided a recovery envelope containing information helpful to families recovering from a fire, including tips on cleanup; notification of important contacts; dealing with damaged items and more," officials wrote in a news release. "The Red Cross is also providing comfort kits containing personal care items such as toothbrushes, deodorant; shaving supplies and other items a resident might need when suddenly displaced from their home by a fire. "Those affected will connect with Red Cross caseworkers in the coming days to work on a longer-term recovery plan. The Red Cross is able to provide assistance through the generosity of our donors and commitment of our volunteers." Firefighters knocked down the fire, which had spread to the attic of the multi-family home, and no injuries were reported, according to a post on the West Haven Professional Firefighters Local 1198 union's Facebook page.
