MACADV is hosting a fundraiser conference for operating expenses for our shelter and building fund for victims of domestic violence. Magnolia Alliance Center Against Domestic Violence (formerly Batesville Safe Shelter) is 501(C)3 nonprofit organization established eight years ago. We have a very diverse board of directors which includes a Elgalene Close, Master Level Social Worker/Executive Director, Donnis Davis, Chairman of Board of Directors, Fred Davis, Rev. Barbara Bledsoe, Rev. Cleveland Hughes, Rev. Marnell Love, Becky Pinkard, Dennis Willoughby and Linda Brown, LMSW; and several community stakeholders in the community and many volunteers. At the current time, we are working with Mississippi Coalition Against Domestic Violence in Jackson, MS to obtain certification for our facility which has to be a permanent structure. We have a temporary shelter in Pope MS on the leased land. The temporary shelter was placed on September 25, 2018 and the shelter opened on February 6, 2019. The shelter houses women and their children for a short time after leaving a domestic violence situation. During their stay, we make every effort to provide the women and children with educational programs , and resources to encourage and maintain healthy lifestyle. Our goal plans are to have a 20-bed facility built to house victims and their children and their pets if needed. Upon completion of the 20-bed facility, our proposed goal is to use the temporary housing for men. At the current time, we do not receive any federal, state or local funds. Primary source of funding is private and local donations. The conference will be a fundraiser for the shelter and will be extremely beneficial for social workers ,hospital staff members, local agencies, law enforcement, attorneys and other professionals. Volunteers, churches and or other caregivers in the community are invited to the conference to gain a better understanding of domestic violence. Magnolia Alliance Center Against Domestic Violence is an IRS approved 501(3)C nonprofit corporation. We are registered with the Mississippi Secretary of State. All contributions are tax deductible.
