No, it's not okay. Change the time and place, and yes cast of characters Would it be justified, or condoned or sympathy extended to either or both participants? I truly doubt it. Let's replay the scenario. A school board meeting, or a rotary luncheon, or even a fast food restaurant, Different characters; my husband or son, or possibly, your grandsons. Would the incident be publicized with general approval or would one or both involved be criticized or possibly censured? Would either one be rewarded for weeping or laughing after the display of temper? Ah, no I truly doubt it. However, we seem to have a separate set of rules for behavior being extended to those in the public domain. One question, however, when. does that latitude spread to the land of the free and the brave? And will there be approval then? Or should there be for a very public assault on another? The reality is a physical attack on another is not okay even when done by two prominent actors, and should be recognized as unacceptable rather than applauded. It was bad behavior by two adults and should be viewed in that context unless we wish to give another message to our youth watching, reading and listening with rapt attention today.
