HUNTINGTON, NY — The Town of Huntington was set to begin milling the East 2nd Street entrance to the south parking lot at LIRR Huntington Train Station on Tuesday, the Town of Huntington stated. Paving of the driveway is set to begin on Friday or April 4, weather permitting. The town initially said the paving would begin on April 4 but said it could start on Friday if weather permits. "The weather is cooperating earlier in the season than we had anticipated," Supervisor Ed Smyth said via news release. "We are in the final stages of this commuter infrastructure improvement project, adding 29 new parking spaces, lighting, and public safety improvements to the Huntington train station parking lot." Milling work on the driveway was slated to start at 9 a.m. Tuesday and will prepare the subbase of the driveway for paving. The town anticipates the paving will start at 9 a.m. on Friday or April 4. Milling work on the driveway started and was completed on Tuesday, preparing the subbase of the driveway for paving. Work is set to continue Wednesday, including injecting emulsion and fine grading over the next few days. Paving is anticipated to begin, weather-dependent, on Friday or Monday. Once the entire lot is repaved, the parking spaces will be stripped and the installation of traffic signs will complete the project. Millwork is expected to take one day, with paving also expected to take one day, depending on weather conditions. Commuters will be able to drive on the exposed subbase of the milled driveway from Tuesday night until paving begins next Monday. This will complete one portion of the full parking lot repaving project, estimated to be done in approximately three to four weeks, weather-dependent. The work requires dry weather conditions with temperatures of 50 degrees or higher for at least three consecutive days.
