Press release from the City of New Orleans: March 23, 2022 NEW ORLEANS — Mayor LaToya Cantrell today announced the immediate suspension of the City's Domicile Ordinance requiring residency in Orleans Parish for employees of the Juvenile Justice Intervention Center (JJIC) and the Equipment Maintenance Division (EMD). Effective immediately, this requirement is waived, and open positions at both agencies may be filled by citizens domiciled outside of Orleans Parish. "Our City is at a precarious juncture when it comes to staffing many of our critical agencies," said Mayor LaToya Cantrell. "We need these roles filled, and we need that to happen with absolutely minimal delay or red tape. By suspending the Domicile Ordinance, we are eliminating a stumbling block that cannot be allowed to delay us any further." In a state of emergency declared under Article IV, Chapter 2, Section 4-206(3)(d) of the New Orleans Home Rule Charter, the Mayor may, by Executive Order, suspend any or all provisions of the City's Domicile Ordinance as outlined in Chapter 2, Article X, Section 2-978 of the New Orleans Home Rule Charter. The City of New Orleans remains under seven (7) emergency declarations. The City continues to push for local staffing and encourages anyone interested to apply by for JJIC jobs for all other City jobs. Additionally, the JJIC will host a job fair from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, at the JJIC facility, located at 1100-A Milton Street.
