Spike's Fish Market To Get Makeover In Point Pleasant Beach

POINT PLEASANT BEACH, NJ — Customers of Spike's Fish Market will be able to eat outside on nice days under plans approved by the Point Pleasant Beach Planning Board. The 96-year-old fish market also will have some updates done, including the installation of a new shed and removal of some old coolers at the property on Broadway. Steven Weinstein, the owner of Expediting Garm LLC, which operates Spike's, told the board he wanted to add outdoor seating to relieve crowding inside the store. The board approved his plans for a total of eight tables — six tables outside, and two inside. Currently there are six tables inside the restaurant, he told the board. The outdoor seating area will be on the side of the restaurant and will be defined with a rope chain and wood planter boxes, according to the meeting minutes. Two old coolers on the property will be replaced with a trash enclosure, and the existing concrete wall on the east side of the property will become the foundation of a new 8-foot by 40-foot storage shed with two new parking spaces. The shed will be painted and decorated with nautical themes, potentially to be painted by the Point Pleasant Beach Arts Committee, according to the approval. In addition, the broken parts of the sidewalk will be repaired and debris will be cleaned up, Weinstein agreed. Board members, in approving the application, said it would be a real improvement to the site and will be a net gain for the town as well.
