Description
I am considering rehoming Percy. I rescued him from an unpredictable home 7 months ago. He was such a challenge that the people literally gave him to me. They had wanted to introduce him to their own dogs. Although they'd only had him a week, they offered no explanation of history. He's 2+ years old, and I have worked with him, getting to know him and working with it. My daughter paid for a trainer who dismissed us after two sessions into my hands with new skills. His history is unknown, but I doubt he was properly socialized. I am an experienced large dog owner although this is my first exposure to Livestock Guardian Dogs. He's done well within the limits of his genetics. He doesn't undrestand why i don't want him to attack "threats". He is all about being a LGD. Some sort of knowledge of these breeds is essential. No first time dog owners should consider this dog. I live in the middle of Capitol Hill and this wonderful guy can't be off leash in this environment. LGDs are NOT dog park dogs. Don't believe, because you've seen Pyranees in your neighborhood, that this is the dog for you and I am somehow mistaken about his temperament. I'm looking for someone who understands LGDs, specifically Anatolians. Or maybe someone who's able to take a risk with him. Percy may even do well as a working LGD. He takes on the smaller dogs as his flock. He will literally lay down to play with a smaller dog, and there's nothing the worst terrier can do that rouses his aggression ~ which is when I Understood LGDs. Another large dog on the scene with his 'littles', nope, large dogs might be 'wolves'. No threat to his collection of 'littles'. Anyway, I am having hip replacement in June. Percy outweighs me by #15 and is a handful, he's only 2.....with appropriate training he's done well, but he will react to large dogs, and occasionally humans, aggressively. This is just not the best environment for him. I'm not a spring chicken, as it were, and he is a 2 1/2 year old giant breed dog. He is a darling with me, he manages with the cat. I don't mean to paint him as some slathering demon dog, that's not so. He deals with the cat. He's a sweet dog being asked to live within very limited parameters. That does NOT mean I will let him go to anyone. I will be very particular about where he goes. I don't want to see him passed around or left at a shelter.
