The Shadow King by Jo Marchant - 288pages
The author is a science writer who details the various unwrappings, X-rays, CT scans and DNA tests Tutankhamun's mummy has been subjected to since discovery. The first part of the book recount's Howard Carter's discovery of the only intact royal figure from ancient Egypt. Although Carter had little interest in the king's remains, there has been increased excitement over his lineage and possible cause of death as technology has progressed. Marchant's book shows accurate testing of ancient DNA from a hot climate is likely impossible, and Tutankhamun's family tree is still a somewhat of a mystery.
