Man Guilty Of Second-Degree Murder In Shooting Of Twins

LAKE COUNTY, IL — After four days of deliberating, a Lake County jury found a Round Lake Beach man guilty of second-degree murder and aggravated assault charges in the shootings of 17-year-old twin brothers last year. Lynell Glover could face up to 30 years in prison, and a hearing has been set for May 5 where a judge could determine his sentence. His lengthy trial got underway on March 14 with a jury coming back with a verdict at about 5 p.m. on Tuesday. During the trial, Glover's attorney argued his client acted in self defense when he shot the teens, Anthony Awad, of Carol Stream, died from the gunshot wounds, and his identical twin, Jonathan Awad, was shot but survived. A key difference provided by prosecutors and the defense during the trial centered around accounts over who brought the handgun used to shoot the teens, according to the Daily Herald. Authorities say the teen boys stole Glover's car days before the shootings and an argument erupted between Glover and the brothers after Glover found the boys in his car on the side of Route 12 near Volo. Prosecutors say Glover had the gun with him when he drove up to the car, but defense attorney James Schwarzbach said one of the teens had the gun and Glover had to fight for control of it before he shot the boys in self-defense, according to the Daily Herald.
