Yard Waste Pickup Delayed Two Weeks Due To Cooler Weather

AURORA, IL — Free spring yard waste collection in Aurora has been postponed for two weeks and will now begin April 18 and run through April 29. The change is a result of cooler temperatures and several requests from residents, city officials said Tuesday. During the two-week period at the end of the month, residents will not have to use waste stickers to dispose of yard waste, making the process free of charge. The waste must be placed in 30-gallon recyclable paper bags and should not exceed 60 pounds. Starting May 2, a waste sticker will once again be required for yard waste collection. The city's free bundled brush collection program will also begin April 18, coinciding with the spring waste collection. This program will run through Nov. 4, and no waste stickers are required. In order for branches and limbs to be collected, they should be half an inch to 4 inches in diameter, 2 to 4 feet in length and bundled and tied; otherwise, it won't be collected. Pieces less than half an inch in diameter are considered yard waste, according to city officials. Both yard waste and bundled brush collection will take place on regular garbage collection day and should be placed at the curb by 6 a.m. that morning.
